Reducing clutter is a great idea if you plan to sell your home. It can also be a great thing to do to increase your sense of well-being. So, let’s get decluttering!
As you work through you spaces, be sure to evaluate the items that are taking up space. Do you need them? Can they be donated to be loved by someone else? Work to make the things you want and need fit well, and get rid of the rest.
Optimize cabinet storage. If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, this idea is for you. Declutter by getting things off of countertops and tables and into cabinets. Make the most of your cabinet space, no matter how small, with bins, racks and other organizers.
Bins can let you move things to the back of deeper cabinets and still be able to access them. Mount a rack on the back of a cabinet or pantry door. Try a roll-out rack in a lower cupboard.
Toss outdated items in the bathroom. When was the last time you checked the expiration date on medications and over the counter product? Exactly.
Pull everything out of your bathroom cabinets and check expiration dates. Throw out all expired products and items that you just don’t like or use.
Find a place to tuck away anything that ruins your bedroom zen. If you’re tight on closet space, under-the-bed storage works wonders. Store out of season and infrequently used clothes and accessories in space-saving storage bags or bins.
A basket under a nightstand can also create a place to get items off of surfaces and out of sight. As you are moving things around, be sure to toss or donate unwanted items.
Give yourself working elbow room. Months into working from home, it is time to stop making due and to create working space that is really what you need.
Add shelving above your desk or somewhere else accessible. Be sure to give yourself more space than you need right away, so you have a place to add new books and items as they accumulate.
Use drawer organizers to get things off the desktop and out of your way. No drawers? Look for organizers that fit on the desktop.
Give yourself time. Decluttering can be overwhelming. Don’t try to do your whole house at once!
Start with one space and get everything how you want it to be. Then take a breath, celebrate your success, and schedule time to do the next space. Whether you tackle a space a day, week, month or quarter, you are making progress!
